My name is Dana Henry. I watch birds. I write poetry. I am a trauma survivor. I am healing.

I started this site with the intention of writing exclusively about trauma, but I don’t want to talk about that right now, at least not in the way I thought I did. I’m more interested in beauty these days. Trauma has kept me from beauty for far too long. Enter the birds.

I started watching birds a few months ago. The experience has changed my life, maybe even changed me. The birds are my path to healing — more than therapy, writing, meditation, or anything else. They release me from my past and my future. They anchor me to the tightrope of the present.

I am using this space to keep track of the birds I’ve seen, to share my poetry, and to share essays about birds, trauma and healing. I don’t have all the answers about how to heal from trauma. Nobody does. But I have a way forward.
